Character Name: Aura
Series: Wild ARMs Alter Code: F
Canon Point: After Zed is defeated in his optional boss battle, but before the party recruits him.
Summary/History: Being a rather minor NPC from a lesser known canon, there really isn't much resources on her history. I'll try to sum it up here as best I can.

Aura grew up her entire life in Saint Centour, a city that is known to be safe from monster attacks thanks to the active protection its Guardian Statue provides in the form of a barrier. Sometime in her childhood, an unexplained injury led to her becoming blind. One way or another, she lost her parents along the way, leaving her on her own. Since then, she's lived by herself. The townsfolk seem to like her enough to keep an eye on her, and express concern for her to which she's very grateful for.

Eventually, the town is overcome with a bizarre case of people disappearing seemingly at random, only to return with no memories of what happened. To the townsfolk, it seems like a case of the supernatural at hand, but the truth is far more sinister. Alhazad, a Metal Demon and part of the Quarter Knights, has been kidnapping people at random to implant demon seeds inside of them. Then, he leaves them outside of town with no memories after he is done. During these strange circumstances, the party (Rudy, Jack and Cecilia) meet an investigator, Kaiser, who asks them for their help in exploring some ruins he feels is tied to the case. Not long after, they meet Aura, who introduces herself and tells them a little about herself (and because of her ability, a little about themselves in the process).

When the party returns to Saint Centour, they find all the villagers have vanished without explanation, with only monsters roaming about with the city's anti-monster barrier now destroyed. What had really happened was before then, those implanted with demon seeds began to mutate into monsters and either chase or even kill off the other villagers. Amist the chaos, Kaiser quickly took Aura to a shelter amist the chaos and sealed it off, afterwards documenting what has happened before being slain.

Aura has little idea of Kaiser or the townsfolks' fates before the party discovers her, informing her what has happened to him and the status of the town. Though she expresses sadness for what has happened, she still believes there must be some villagers who have managed to escape and continuously hopes they will return.

Sometime later on, a new face comes to the village, inadvertantly discovering Aura in the process. Panicked, the stranger, Zed, initially threatens her to keep quiet or he'd kill her, fearing she's noticed he's a demon and not aware of the fact she is blind. In any case, she silently agrees. Soon, he realizes she isn't a threat and begins to look after her, and the two quickly strike up a bond. Zed is grateful to have someone who treats him normally (while not informing her of the fact he is not human), and Aura is grateful to have a respite from her extended isolation and listen to the entertaining stories Zed has to offer. Aura still hopes for the missing townsfolk to return and Zed, formerly being part of the crew responsible for the disaster, doesn't have the heart to tell her, let alone his previous association with those responsible for the attack.

Soon, the party returns to Saint Centour to check up on her and run into Zed, who panicks and attacks them out of fear they will warn her about the fact he's a demon. He's soon defeated, and Zed explains what he'd been doing up until then after their last encounter: hiding out, and looking after Aura in the meantime.

With the barrier down, Zed requests the party to search for something that will help restore it. Later on, they bring back something capable of repairing its functions and Zed expresses his apprehension, as a functioning barrier would mean Aura has no need for his protection. Still, Aura reassures him that she will be fine, but she will still miss him as it is lonely living by herself and hopes he will drop by from time to time, to which he enthusiastically promises.

The two are last seen in the ending animation, still in the abandoned Saint Centour with Aura fiddling with a piece of dandelion that has caught up in her hair. Zed is present, having upheld his promise to return to her.

Personality:

Aura is as normal as you can get a person, and known for a sense of kindness in her as well as her ability to sense what people are like. Though a normal human and blind at that, Aura has a bit of resilience in her, stating she's capable of looking after herself and given the events of canon, has managed to hold up relatively well in the shelter after being isolated for a considerable while. She even outright states even with monsters roaming the town, she has no intentions of leaving as it is her home. No matter what, she continuously hopes people will return someday and never falters in that hope.

Though surprises can certainly catch her off guard, even startle her given her circumstances, when she expresses her relief at the party after realizing they are not in fact monsters but passing drifters looking to help out - ones she has previously acquainted with in a brief meeting, at that.

When she first meets Zed, she's described to have remained quiet and calm despite his initial threats. It's likely her ability allowed her to sense he was not serious about his threats, yet it still takes a sense of resilience to remain calm in the event a stranger has barged in and made such demands of her. Perhaps her extended isolation contributed to an overall loneliness, not to mention Zed's true nature as an energetic sociable person, helped the two strike a fast bond, implying she's easily trusting of others. Even when she discovers what Zed really is, it does not bother her as she already knows he is truly a good person deep down.

Still, though she states she is fine on her own and copes as best she can, ultimately she isn't satisfied with living as such. She really does appreciate friendly company and having someone to chat with, particularly after what she's been through. So, she makes a promise to Zed: to come back from time to time and be safe.

But even with her mildly empathic abilities, she doesn't view it or herself as anything special. To her, and perhaps especially considering the company she's had of late, she's really just a normal girl above all that. She's herself before anything else, and doesn't expect to be treated differently or such for her disability (or ability) - if anything, having been treated that way once instilled a sense of guilt and responsibility. Not just the fact people were kind to her because of her impairment, but knowing one of the surviving villagers went out of their way to safeguard her and later on ended up killed themselves didn't do a whole lot good for that and she expresses as such.

The very last thing she wants is to drag people down because of her; hence why she reassures Zed to go journey with Rudy and the rest of the team. She knows he worries about her, perhaps a little too much, and she wants him to be happy just as much as he does. And though she feels guilty for what has happened, with some reassurance from everyone else, she swears to live her life for the sake of those who protected her and that she'll no longer cry for those who have fallen - instead, praying for those who may have been lucky enough to escape with their lives and for the town to eventually return to its former bustling self.

Powers/Abilities: As far as abilities go, Aura's pretty much as normal a human you can get aside from being blind due to an unexplained injury in her childhood. However, she does have mild empathic abilities and can sense what people are like on at least a surface level from the sound of their voices. This means she can get a basic feel of what they're like, and what possible flaws they may have. As for an example, when Rudy speaks to her for the first time, she describes him as being a nice person but one who has had many bitter experiences as well. Her reading is accurate enough, if only on a very surface level. It doesn't mean she knows exactly what's up with him - just that he's had some rough experiences in life.

Though it should be restated her abilities are strictly empathic, and on a rather mild level at that. She can't sense any magic in anyone as far as I know, and she can't tell whether or not they're human or otherwise - the latter is precisely why an optional bossfight with Zed is triggered, as he attacks the party out of fear they'll warn her about the fact he is a Metal Demon.

Because it's on a rather surface level and because she's just an ordinary human aside from that, I don't doubt there's moments where she's wrong on her readings. It's certainly possible someone could even manipulate her this way, if they know what they're doing.

Items on your character: Not much beyond the clothes on her back.
